If you are unaware Finding Dory is about a fish named Dory who has very short term memory loss. In this movie, she is trying to find her parents and where she came from. It is a really great movie and I highly suggest you check it out if you have not already.
So today we are talking about the key thing to take away from this movie. A life lesson one might say. Now I know this movie came out over 2 years ago but Pixar took 10years to release a sequel to Finding Nemo so, in comparison, 2 years is not bad 😉
Let’s first dive in more into the plot of Finding Dory. The plot below is taken from Wikipedia I don’t own it.
“Dory, a regal blue tang, gets separated from her parents as a child. As she grows up, Dory attempts to search for them, but gradually forgets them due to her short-term memory loss. In the flashback of the previous film, Finding Nemo, she joins Marlin – a clownfish looking for his missing son Nemo – after accidentally swimming into him.
One year later, Dory is living with Marlin and Nemo on their reef. One day, Dory has a flashback and remembers that she has parents. She decides to look for them, but her memory problem is an obstacle. She eventually remembers that they lived at the Jewel of Morro Bay across the ocean in California, thanks to Nemo mentioning its name
The Life Lessons
- She is kind to everybody no matter what type of fish they are
- She trusts in herself
- She is very optimistic as seen in her catchphrase “just keep swimming” which means “don’t give up” and when helping Marlin in Finding Nemo she is optimistic in getting his son back
- She knows there is always another way around a situation
- Always enjoy the small things in life
- Seek what makes you happy
Dory never tries to be anybody but herself. She knows that she has a memory problem but she never finds any fault in it or uses it to make people feel guilty for her. She does not let her memory problem stop her from looking for her parents or doing anything in life.
In fact, her memory problem may be a feature as to why she lives her life to the fullest. She knows life is meant to be lived in the moment.
She knows that can is capable of doing anything she sets her mind to despite her disability.
This is a great lesson for anyone with mental health issues or any issues. Just be yourself
“Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something”
