Everyone wants a hack for making their love lives easier. Truthfully there is no real hack. That being said, if you know the 5 love languages then you may be able to use them to your advantage.

Everyone falls into one of these 5 categories. Some may even fall into two. You can ask what their love language is, have them take a quiz or pay close attention to what they desire.

I believe that love languages can be used to your advantage even with people you are not in a romantic relationship with. Advantage as in a non-toxic way. So how can you get the upper hand on everyone you know?:

What are the 5 love languages?

The term love language refers to the way that a person prefers to express love to—and receive it. The term was introduced by author and counselor Dr. Gary Chapman, who proposed five specific love languages

  • Words of affirmation
  • Gifts
  • Acts of service
  • Quality time
  • Physical touch

My love language is quality time. Words mean nothing, gifts mean nothing, I hate being touched and acts of service is almost like gifts.

How to use the 5 love languages to your advantage

Words of affirmation

Kind words matter here people. Demonstrating sweet expressions of appreciation, compliments, gratitude, and encouragement is something that goes a long way.

Some people need reassurance from actual phrases to know they are appreciated and understood.

How can you take advantage of this love language

  • say hello to random people
  • tell someone they are the best
  • tell someone how thankful you are to have them
  • say thank you
  • tell someone you are proud of them
  • listen and say ‘I know how you feel’
  • tell someone they are the best

Physical Touch

If someone’s love language is physical touch, they may or may not know it, but they enjoy the release of the ‘feel-good hormones’ our body secretes like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin

How can you take advantage of this love language?

  • hug a person in need *ask before hugging*
  • give your partner a kiss on the cheek randomly
  • hold your partner’s hand in public, especially when with friends
  • a handshake
  • a pat on the back

Protip– Just because we are ‘taking advantage’ of the love lesson of physical touch does not give you the right to disobey someone’s comfort zone. This can be on the border of abuse so respect people

Quality time

This has to be the best love language out of all 5. This means actually spending meaningful time with someone. Aka get off the phone and hang out with them.

This can be hard to do with coworkers especially when work can be busy. But there are ways. Just make a little time

More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say
If I took those words away?
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying “I love you”

Acts of Service

This love language is for people who believe that actions speak louder than words. Unlike those who prefer to hear how much they’re cared for, people on this list like to be shown how they’re appreciated.

How to take advantage of this love language

  • bring someone coffee in the morning
  • make them breakfast
  • offer to do something they need help with
  • offer to switch shifts
  • ask how they are

Gifts

You may be thinking ‘is gifts not the same as acts of service?’ Actually no. Acts of service is more of doing the small things like cleaning the house, making soup, or buying coffee.

Gifts are when you buy something from your heart. The person feels the best when they give or receive presents. These things do not always have to be expensive.

How can you use this love language to your advantage?

  • listen to the person and surprise them with something they really want
  • send flowers to their work
  • bring cookies to work

  • a cute mug- these can be found at stores like Dollar Tree. Protip– do not give them a humorous cup unless they are that kind of person. One like below is perfect for anyone

  1. I enjoy your website, obviously, but you should check the spelling on a number of your posts. A number of them have numerous spelling errors, which makes it difficult for me to tell the truth, but I will definitely return.
