Failure aka the reason why most people are afraid to try most things. We fear failing ourselves, our friends and especially our family. However, with failure comes excellent life lessons.
It is a fact that no one can master defeat. It is just something we have to deal with. Luckily you can find a lesson with everything in life.
Today we are talking about the most powerful life lessons you can learn from failure.
There are 3 main types of failure
Preventable Failure– These failures can be prevented. Example– Applying for a job you do not qualify for. You know that you will fail to get the job
Unavoidable Failure– These failures are some that are least expected. Example– You slide on black ice. Black ice is tough to see thus you did not know you had a chance of falling
Intelligent Failures– The failures that teach us the act of not giving up. Example- I have failed at blogging many times but have also learned what does not work for me
Life Lessons from Failure
You can not avoid it
Life is all about trying new things. Some things will be a success and some will be a complete failure. If you are willing to take the chance to do anything then you have to take what happens. I know it can be very hard to fail but like Thomas Edison said-
I have not failed, I have found 1000 ways that will not workThomas Edison
Remember Thomas was the guy who invented the light bulb and the motion camera.
How you react to failure matters
You can sulk, quit everything you have been working on and move on. Or you could learn from what went wrong. NBA legend Kobe Bryant was motivated by failure. 2008 his Los Angeles Lakers were blown out by the Boston Celtics in the NBA finals. He came back with a vengeance. In 2010, the Lakers beat the Celtics to win their 16th championship. he got his success and his 5th championship ring
Everyone has failed/ will fail in their lifetime
I feel like a failure every day of my life. I fail in my blog, I have failed because I have done nothing in my 35 years and I feel like I fail my animals. It takes a major toll on my mental health and my body. I know I am not the only one who fails and not the only one who has felt this way in their life. In the moment is when you feel things.
What can you do to make yourself feel better:
- Write in a journal
- Try again
- Tell someone how you feel
- Take a walk
- Take a nap
- Take a bath
You do not have to like it
Let’s face it, failure sucks and nobody likes it. The people who do really have some issues (sorry). Everyone wants to win quickly and easily. Life does not always work that way. The best things in life come with sacrifice and sometimes that sacrifice is failing.
Let your fear and dislike for failure lead you to try harder
Failure can reveal your best qualities
How? One of your best qualities is how you react in certain situations. Your failure can cause people to be motivated if you take it as a lesson.
Take Kobe Bryant for example– Like I said he was not afraid to fail because he knew it would make him work harder. People are motivated by him because of his willingness to become the best despite the hardships.
Failure will show you that you have-
- Courage to try again
- Wisdom from what you learned that did not work
- Determination to try again
- Confidence in yourself
Failure is not the end
We learn to keep going when we are very young children learning to walk. Most children know genetically what failure means but they still try. They still wobble their little bodies up and try to walk. They are not afraid. They know it takes time.
I mean if a 2-year-old child knows failure is not the end then should not someone your age know it also?
Moving on and trying again is what life is all about. Life can be scary but if you let your fear get the best of you then you are not living life to the fullest.
